You come here to see what’s new and interesting in the world of publishing, which probably makes you a writer. Let’s face it, no one cares about the publishing industry except for those of us who are trying to break into it.
So now, my question is this…
As a writer, are you really trying? Do you write a little something every single day, or are you more the type who thinks about the fact that you should be writing while you are actually out catching air on the slopes? I don’t blame you if you would rather be out snowboarding. It probably seems more satisfying a lot of the time, and it definitely offers more instant gratification.
If you are having a hard time getting motivated to write, do this. Go ahead and do the snowboarding. Spend all day out on the mountain if you want, spend your night at the lodge having cocoa by the fire, and really immerse yourself in atmosphere. Then, when you get up the next morning, take a short break from the slopes. Write about the mountains. Write about the cold. Write about the snow. Write about Snowboards and all the gear you need for a full day out on the powder. You might be able to sell it later.
The point is, there is no reason to give up all of your other loves for the love of writing. Writing can co-exist with anything, and no matter what you are doing, there is always something worth writing about.
So, hit the slopes, make a few runs, be in the moment. Then, when the moment is over, get to your computer or paper and pen and capture the moment in words. Great writers integrate the writing into every part of their lives. Even snowboarding.
