Dewey author Vicki Myron has a reason to celebrate. Rumor has it that she just signed a 7-figure deal. The author is a midwest librarian who shot to the top of the bestseller lists with her 2008 book about caring for a cat she discovered in her Iowa branch. New Line nabbed film rights for Dewey, with Meryl Streep supposedly attached to star.

Borders Adds to Children’s Section

But they add toys and games, not more books. The new additions will replace the the music and movies section. What exactly are they adding? A selection of educational games and toys to the children’s sections in its superstores. The products are going to be divided into toys and games for children three and under; for kids 3 to 7; and for kids 7 through 12.

Unauthorized Catcher in the Rye sequel blocked

As you may know, someone wrote an unauthorized sequel to Salinger’s Catcher in the Rye. Fredrik Colting’s 60 Years Later is the book in question. There was a lawsuit filed about this unauthorized sequel. Well, a judge just ruled on it. And publication was blocked. Colting vowed to appeal the decision though.

Gareth Stevens imprint finds a buyer

The Gareth Stevens imprint is currently an imprint of Reader’s Digest. Reader’s Digest has been shopping around the imprint looking for a buyer. And it looks like they have found one! A new company is the buyer. The company is actually owned by Roger Rosen, owner and CEO of Rosen Publishing, and Gary Spears, a co-founder of Gareth Stevens in 1984. The new compnay will operate the imprint as Gareth Stevens Publishing.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Books to be Published

Four books by the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. will be republished by Beacon Press. The four King books have been published in the past, but have all been out of print for almost twenty years. Beacon Press is a publisher dedicated to works on human rights and social justice. The Press will release the four King works on January 18th of next year on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Books being reissued are “Stride Toward Freedom”, which focuses on the Montgomery Bus Boycott, “Strength to Love”, King’s most celebrated stories, “Where Do We Go From Here: Chaos or Community?”, the last book on race relations written by King, and “Trumpet of Conscience”, a compilation of five King lectures. The deal with Beacon was made by King’s youngest son and is being called “The King Legacy”.
