As a small publisher, you may utilize Amazon Marketplace to move some of your books. A lot of small publishers do this to move damaged books that otherwise would not sell. Well, Amazon is getting ready to introduce something new called “Charge When Ship” to Marketplace accounts. This means that you will have to ship items with some sort of tracking number. And you have to actually ship the item and then enter in the tracking number in order for Amazon to charge the customer. Here is the potential problem that I see with this - what happens when there is a problem with the payment? Currently, you get an email stating not to ship until the buyer updates payment info. With “Charge When Ship” the item will already be shipped. Is Amazon prepared to eat those costs?
