Here is something interesting. A Stephen King fan has published the Shining‘s Jack Torrance’s novel.

The fan published an 80-page version of the book which novelist Jack Torrance obsessively writes during King’s The Shining, where his descent into madness is revealed when his wife discovers that his work consists of just one phrase, endlessly repeated.

The book in The Shining only contains the phrase “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”, typed over and over again.

New York artist Phil Buehler, who describes himself as “a big fan of Stanley Kubrick and Stephen King”, has self-published a book credited to Torrance, repeating the phrase throughout but formatting each page differently, using the words to create different shapes from zigzags to spirals.

Okay, so, there is a new president in the United States and that is a good thing but it remains to be seen what effect it will have on the rest of the world. The TS Eliot prize for poetry has been announced.

Jen Hadfield as won the TS Eliot prize for poetry. She is considered to be somewhat of a newcomer to the genre. Hadfield won for Nigh-No-Place. It is her second book of poetry written in Shetland and also while traveling across Canada.

Neil Gaiman’s acclaimed 2002 novel, Coraline, will be in theaters on February 6, 2009. The novel is about a girl who ventures through a door into a strange, parallel world.

The film is directed by Henry Selick (James and the Giant Peach; The Nightmare Before Christmas).

And the movie features the voice of Dakota Fanning as Coraline, with Teri Hatcher and John Hodgman as her parents. It is the first stop-motion animated film to be shot in stereoscopic 3D (using dual digital cameras), with Laika Entertainment handling the animation of the Focus Features movie.
