Macomber with Howard for nonfiction titles

publishing news No Comments »

Romance writer Debbie Macomber has over 100 million copies of her novels in print. And now she is branching out into nonfiction. Macomber has inked a deal with Touchstone Fireside’s Howard Books for two nonfiction inspirational titles.

The first of the two will be Fishes and Loaves: Living in a Spirit of Generosity. It will expound on Macomber’s belief that a willingness to live in a spirit of giving will yield unforeseen miracles. You can expect she’ll share stories from her own life and from others who commit intentional acts of generosity.

Expect a fall 2009 publication for Fishes and Loaves.

It’s not too early to think Halloween

You know, summer is here and in full swing but make no mistake, it is not too early to think about Halloween just yet. Sure, it is pretty scorching hot outside right now but you know how time is - it flies! And before you know it summer will be totally over for the year and Halloween will be here before you know it. So you need to spend of that time that you are out lounging by the pool thinking about Halloween costumes and what you will wear this Halloween. Now, for me, I like to shop for a costume for Halloween at those types of places that sell tons - and I mean tons - of costumes for Halloween. And I came across one called Costume Cauldron. If you think the name sounds a little bit hokey, wait till you check out the site! These people specialize in corny, well that and Halloween costumes. They have really taken to heart the whole Halloween theme and appear to have attempted to make the website a little spooky by making it look like things on the side bar are dripping and what not. So yeah, kind of corny. But they do have loads and loads of costumes for Halloween. I really liked the ’sexy vixen pirate wench’ on the main page. And it is so much less expensive than at most costume stores at only $39.95. The kids ‘monster bride’ costume is also pretty freaking awesome! And it is also affordable at only $27.95. Despite the hokey aspect of the website, these cool costumes at low prices are definitely worth bookmarking this site so that I can find a costume for Halloween for myself. You should totally check it out too. There are actually some pretty sweet costumes for Halloween on the site. All you have to do is get past the hokey website. So be sure to check it out today!

Tony winner Lupone working on memoirs

publishing news No Comments »

She was just recently named a Tony winner for her role in Gypsy. Now actress Patti LuPone has signed with Random House’s Harmony Books to do a memoir.

She won her second Tony for Gypsy on Sunday. She took the Tony honor in 1980 for Evita. She plans on covering her introduction to the theater as a girl growing up in Northport, Long Island, through her time at Juilliard. There she studied at the school’s then newly-formed drama division under John Houseman.

The book will also delve into LuPone’s up-and-down career. It is spiked by high-highs and low-lows, swinging from the Tony wins to a stretch where she had to work the Catskills resort circuit to pay the bills.

Emmy winner Jeffrey Richman will be writing the book with LuPone.

Bestselling author Paulo Coelho has teamed with MySpace to create his first feature film. It will be called The Experimental Witch.

The film will be done using the ‘mash-up’ video concept. You see, Coelho will transform his most recent book, which is The Witch of Portobello, into a feature film. (It was just published last year.) Coelho will be using original videos and music created and submitted by MySpace users.

Coelho will select up to 15 videos and 16 songs to be included in the final film. Coelho will own the film, and distribution of the final product has not yet been set
