According to Shelf Awareness, The Oxford, Ohio, Chamber of Commerce honored Howard Dubois with a Lifetime Achievement Award. This is from a story in the Oxford Press. Howard is the owner of Dubois Book Store in Oxford.

Also in the news is Canada’s oldest bookstore. The Book Room, Halifax, Nova Scotia, will begin “an orderly shutdown of its retail store and dispose of its inventory” over the next few weeks and will close at the end of March, store president Charles Burchell told CBC News.

“I am extremely disappointed to make this announcement as the Book Room has been an institution in Nova Scotia,” he continued. “The bookstore has survived two World Wars, the Great Depression and economic ups and downs over its 169 year history.”

do you remember Judith Regan? She was the publishing exec that got fired after the OJ “If I Did It” Book debacle.

If you recall she sued her employer that fired her. I think that was back in November 2007.

Well, Judith Regan has settled that $100 million lawsuit she filed against Harper Collins and the publisher’s parent News Corp.

Regan and News Corp. issued Friday noting that an “equitable” and “confidential” settlement has been reached with “no admission of liability by any party.”

New Arianna Huffington coming soon!

publishing news No Comments »

If the name sounds familiar it is with good reason. Arianna Huffington is the founder of the successful HuffingtonPost.com. And she’s been in the media for some time.

Well, Arianna Huffington has a new book on the way that I am pretty excited about. Her previous books include On Becoming Fearless, Pigs at the Trough and Maria Callas. Her new books is Right Is Wrong: How the Lunatic Fringe Hijacked America, Shredded the Constitution, and Made Us All Less Safe. Knopf will publish it on April 29, 2008.

The book targets Bob Woodward of the Washington Post and Tim Russert, moderator of Meet the Press, as moderators of the Republican agenda. So it should be a good politically charged book!
